Berserk 364: Is This The End Of Berserk?

Berserk 364 is the last chapter that Kentaro Miura worked on before his passing. The chapter ends with a cliffhanger.

The latest chapter of Berserk continues where Chapter 363 left off. The Moonlight Boy has appeared, confusing Guts and crew. Of course, the newest chapter doesn't give a feeling of finality, as its creator probably didn't intend for it to end there. This chapter answers a longstanding question but also creates more questions to be unanswered.

Schierke theorizes that the Moonlight Boy is Danann. Though, this is quickly disproven by Danann herself. There are some wholesome moments between characters. Casca holds the Moonlight Boy, while in another scene, Guts chases him as he runs away with Guts's armor.

Guts displays selflessness as he asks the others to bring the boy to Casca. All the while, he remains separated from the group and especially from Casca. There is a concerning moment where Guts loses grip of his sword and experiences more vision loss. Not only does this show his dependency on the armor, but Guts also acknowledges this himself.

As for the chapter's major reveal, Griffith and the Moonlight Boy are one and the same. It appears that Griffith experiences the Moonlight Boy's feelings and experiences as if it were all a dream. He often awakes with a single tear, residual emotions from the boy. Now that Griffith is on the island, only conflict or tragedy will ensue.

Both Guts and Casca are before Griffith. It would be interesting to see the interaction that they would have, especially now that Casca has regained her sanity. There are other elements at play as well. Zodd could be nearby, as he always keeps a close eye on Griffith and the Moonlight Boy. This may all benefit Griffith, as he would have been unable to step foot on the island, due to his ill intent. However, now that he has successfully made it there thanks to the Moonlight Boy, he may now be able to destroy the tree and thus the island itself.

Unfortunately, at this time there has been no confirmation as to the continuation of the series. This could very well be the end of Berserk. Though it would be nice to have a continuation, perhaps it would be poetic to have the last chapter that Kentaro Miura worked on to be the end of the series. Regardless, Berserk continues to build grand mysteries and leave its readers wanting for more.
